🤖 Elon asks to pause AI, Andrew Ng says no!

Published about 1 year ago • 2 min read

Hi Reader,,

Welcome to the PYCAD newsletter, where every week you receive doses of machine learning and computer vision techniques and tools to help you learn how to build AI solutions to empower the most vulnerable members of our society, patients.

Elon Musk asks to pause training new large AI models, Andrew Ng says NO!

If you haven't heard, there was a petition lately that was signed by some of the top voices in the AI industry.

The petition asked for halting the training of AI systems that are more powerful than GPT-4 for a period of 6 months.

Here's the most important snippet from the letter:

“We call on all AI labs to immediately pause for at least 6 months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4. This pause should be public and verifiable, and include all key actors. If such a pause cannot be enacted quickly, governments should step in and institute a moratorium.”

This letter reflects some of the fears that top AI actors are having when it comes to training powerful models such as ChatGPT and GPT-4.

Although this petition was signed by many AI leaders, there were other leaders who gave a firm NO answer!

One of these leaders who said no, is Andrew Ng.

Here's a tweet that Andrew Ng shared:

Andrew Ng has had a big impact on many machine learning engineers careers so far. His course about machine learning was an important step that many ML engineers went through during their learning journey, including me.

This difference in opinion between AI leaders is a healthy thing in my opinion. We need both sides of the argument before we can make a good decision. Which side are you on?

I'm building a ChatGPT Browser Extension

You've probably noticed that I didn't send you new editions to my newsletter in the last couple of weeks. This is because I've been working on a Chrome Extension powered by ChatGPT.

This extension will allow you to use ChatGPT directly from your browser withouth the need to go to OpenAI website each time.

The extension will soon be finished and I would love it if you could be among the first beta users!

Here's a sample test of the extension:

Key elements of the extension:

  • It's FREE. You'll only be paying OpenAI for your usage.
  • You'll be using your own credentials from your OpenAI account with ChatGPT API. This means that it will generally be cheaper than the 20$/month that the current ChatGPT Pro plan provides.
  • It's a browser extension, so you'll be able to access the power of ChatGPT from anywhere, without the need to login to OpenAI website each time.

If you'd like to be among the first users of the extension, just hit reply to this email and mention that you'd like to be a beta tester.

That's it for this week's edition of AIFEE!
